Portia Lee James DeGeneres, well-known professionally as the pseudonym Portia de Rossi, is a well-known model from the United States acting, actress and philanthropist. When she was 15 years old, she officially changed her name and adopted the Italian name "de Rossi" that was fashionable. The name she chose was "Portia" from Shakespeare's production of The Merchant of Venice. Portia considers it to be the most daring thing she has ever done and stated that the urgency for her to change her name was triggered by her inner conflict over her sexuality. Portia was first introduced to the film industry with a romantic comedy drama called 'Sirens' in which she starred alongside Hugh Grant. Portia has also appeared in numerous American TV series and films such as 'Too Somewhere and 'Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher and 'Arrested Development, as well as 'Better Off Ted.
